Located on the Gulf of Mexico, just west of St. Pete, is one of the best spots for the perfect Florida vacation – Madeira Beach. Settled by pirate John Levique, it’s become a favorite destination for anyone seeking sun, fun, and fantastic attractions. Whether it’s wandering John’s Pass Village and Boardwalk, strolling along white, sandy beaches, or taking in some fishing, Madeira Beach is the place to be.
No matter what you’re doing, there’s always time to stop in for a drink at one of the many beach bars in Madeira Beach or a bite at the best Madeira Beach restaurants. Let’s explore some local favorites so that after you’ve browsed and booked one of our fantastic Madeira Beach condo rentals or St. Pete Beach rentals, you’ll know just where to go to find a new favorite dish or drink!
Bamboo Beach Bar
Among Madeira Beach bars – and all bars in Florida – Bamboo Beach Bar is one of the oldest. It also happens to be one of the best. Located in the famous John’s Pass Village, they’ve been serving up some of the best grub and drinks. Known as “Boo” to the locals, it’s the place for the hottest music and the coldest beers.
Stop in for a drink, and then keep the glass! Fill a real hand-carved coconut (in the shape of a monkey or pirate!) with a tasty Banana Cabana. Enjoy this drink featuring spiced rum, banana, or pina colada, or tingle your tastebuds with the Revitalizing Lava Flow with rum, pina colada, and strawberry swirl. Non-alcoholic favorites include the Coconut Crème, Banana Blast, or a fresh coconut smoothie. Draft beers are also on tap, so take your pick!
While sipping, dive into a fresh fish spread with pita and jalapenos, then order the coconut shrimp or clam strip basket. You can also choose from fish or shrimp tacos and a lot more. Boo is a stop you simply must make.
Caddy’s John’s Pass
If you want casual waterfront dining in John’s Pass Village, check out Caddy’s. This place is part of the Caddy’s family of restaurants – a name synonymous with good food and good times. If you wander into the Madeira Beach location, you’ll find all the fun eats, drinks, and atmosphere that Caddy’s is known for. Stop in for a fantastic $5 cocktail during happy hour (from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday), or sip a specialty frozen drink out of a souvenir sports bottle while listening to some of the best live music around – the Sunset Sessions Monday through Sunday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. The drink list is extensive – with so many choices, you can come back any time to try more, including a pina colada, strawberry daiquiri, or a coconut mojito.
Hungry? Treat the group to a salty and delicious Bavarian pretzel with beer queso and mustard or try the famous peel & eat shrimp or fried calamari. Pair an ice-cold Sunshine Salad with a steaming hot bowl of house-made seafood chowder before digging into a crab cake BLT, grouper Rueben, or the stunning seafood platter trio of snapper, crab cake, and grilled shrimp. Finish it all off with sweet and tart key lime pie. Seaside dining perfection!
Mad Beach Craft Brewery
Located in the heart of Gulf Beaches, this brewpub works closely with its chef to come up with unique twists on traditional food and then pairs these creations with just the right brews to suit any taste. It’s a little edgy and a lot of fun, making it a favorite of locals and visitors alike.
You’ll find delicious watermelon sangria, coconut, or blood orange cider on tap. You’ll also find a fantastic selection of beers for every taste. Sip on the Muffin Man Wheat Ale with vanilla and blueberry notes or treat yourself to a thick and rich HMB Coffee Vanilla Stout blended with dark roasted coffee and vanilla beans. Try the I Yam What I Yam spiced ale brewed with cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, and sweet potatoes for a warm and unique treat! You’ve never had anything like it, we promise.
A great meal might include Fish N Tots – beer-battered whitefish served with seasoned tots and tartar sauce. Or go with the seared or blackened Mahi filet or a vegetarian and gluten-free bratwurst served up on a bed of seasoned peppers and onions. Burgers, salads, and a kids’ menu mean everyone can find something special here. Don’t forget to ask which beers pair best with the adult meals!
