It’s hard to believe, but we’re under 100 days away from the annual Florida State Fair in nearby Tampa. Over 400,000 Floridians and visiting tourists flock to this massive celebration of our state’s agriculture, business, and history. Most people visit St. Pete Beach for the beautiful, peaceful beaches and the countless Gulf of Mexico activities, such as parasailing, jet-skiing, charter fishing, and snorkeling. You would be making a huge mistake if you skipped the Florida State Fair, however, as this annual get-together is a unique opportunity to taste rare foods, meet friendly animals, and people-watch thousands of carnival-goers. Travel Resort Services (TRS) has a wide variety of Madeira Beach rentals and St. Pete Beach resorts only a short drive from the fairgrounds. We have hundreds of vacation rentals throughout the great Tampa area, perfect for a getaway of any kind. Here’s what makes the Florida State Fair so special.
Obscure Fair Food
We’re not saying to try every obscure fair food that you come across, but you have to taste a couple at least, right? Not unlike many others across the country, the Florida State Fair features a wide variety of unique, edible concoctions that make people say either “ick” or “yum!” It’s best to know your taste buds beforehand. Liking sweet and savory items in combination is a plus. Some of the highlights from last year’s fair were the catfish sundae, chicken and waffles pizza, Mama Jane’s banana Frenkel funnel cake, and the deep-fried strawberry shortcake.
Rides and Entertainment
The Florida State Fair has over 100 rides, making it easy to become overwhelmed. We recommend just going for a stroll and finding a ride or two that interests everyone. The 155-foot-tall Midway Sky Eye, the largest traveling Ferris wheel in North America, is an excellent place to start. If you’re looking for quick thrills, try the exhilarating RC 48 Coaster! You never know what kind of entertainment you’ll find at the fair. Last year we saw Elvis, mini monster trucks, terrier races, and a “trashion” fashion show.
Cute, Cuddly Animals
You’ll have ample opportunities to meet some of Florida’s cutest animals at this year’s fair. There are many live competitions, contests, and shows that involve horses, livestock, and dogs. The chicken and rabbit barn is a fun place to bring the kids. The rabbits and pygmy goats make adorable companions!
